Hi, I'm running Repetier-Host on Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon. Everything works fine virtually right out of the box, very few commands to do the install, all documented.

Extract the archive into a folder in your home directory. (I've actually got copies of V1.6.2, V2.0 and V2.0.1, all in separate folders. V1.6.2 was updated recently and after changing some of the harder to see controls in V2.0 they've now got V2.01 which also includes a tool for "Velocity Painting", this allows you to "paint" an image into the side of your 3D print. Interesting!
Note you'll need to run createDesktopIcon.sh within the folder to generate an, er... desktop icon to allow easy access to the program once installed.

To get rid of the program you don't have to uninstall it (apparently), you just delete the folder you extracted all the files to. As I say, I've got three versions at present which all work. Once I'm completely happy I'll clear out the older ones.

You also get Slic3r and Cura bundled with Repetier-Host. I tend to use Slic3r but as a separate application to get from .stl or .obj files to GCode which I save then load into Repetier to print. You can also run it from within Repetier.
I've also added Slic3r Prusa - 1.34.1-prusa3d-linux64 from the Prusa Website; http://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original- ... t3971.html as an alliterative to Slic3r 1.2.9 which I was using originally. (It's in the Mint Repos)

There are no driver files to bother about, I just connected the printer to a USB port and after checking the Repetier set up discovered that it knew where the printer was and connected without a problem.

I'm getting pretty decent prints at present after learning a bit about Slic3r and how to save different configs to add rafts, brims, supports, etc and various speed settings to suit what I'm printing. My biggest problem is prints failing by breaking free from the print bed at present! (I use Pritt stick glue to help with adhesion.) Its a pain when you're 2 hours 27 minutes into a 3 hour pint when it happens!

I have installed Repetier-Host. Very easy but before running createDesktopIcon.sh, I fisrt ran configureFirst.sh.
Now I can run Repetier-Host (but not yet tested it with the printer because I have to assemble it, hard job

I have not seen Slic3r 1.2.9 in my Mint Repos. I have downloaded v 1.34.1 for linux 64 from the Prusa Website but I don't know how to execute it.
For dependencies I successful installed wx-common and libopengl-perl but I don't see libwx-glcanvas-perl.

Any idea ?

Right click and use the "Open with Archive Manager" option, you can then decide where you want to install it. I see that I've got it in my Repetier 2.0.1 folder. Because of that I can access it from within the slicer options of Repetier as well.

Remember to run

usermod -a -G dialout yourUserName

as yourself to give yourself the privilege to access the USB serial port. You only have to run it once as it modifies your access rights. You don't (and shouldn't) run the software as root, it runs as <Your Username>!

You can run Repetier and Slic3r without a printer to check them out. Slicer just generates the GCode from .stl and .obj files, you can preview the print and check how it's going to print each layer.

Missing libwx-glcanvas-perl? Hmmm...

Slic3r 1.34.1 may actually have it within the package? I found something within the installed package libraries that looks like it. Check it and see...
I initially installed standard Slic3r from the mint repos and just got the command line version hence the addition of the three libraries.
You may have to find it somewhere else if the above doesn't work.(or upgrade to Mint 18?)
Mint 17 is supported till April 2019 so you're current. See if it works, if not, I'd leave Slic3r for the moment, you seem to have enough to do with the build plus you can still check Repetier!
