Rostock 301 - no connection to printer if lcd is connected

Hey,

if the lcd is unplugged, I can connect with repetier to the printer. If the display is connected, I cannot get a connection to the printer with either repetier or HyperTerminal. If the lcd is connected, also the hotend fan is not running, but if the display is unplugged, the hotend fan is running.
When the lcd is plugged in, it displays two rows with black blocks.

Can anyone help me make sense out of it?

Maybe there is something wrong with your board...
You can try unplugging all the cables on the board except the power cable and LCD cable,and see if the LCD works fine.
