I measured at pin 1 and 40 on both the control and LCD boards. I thought meant the loss was within the cable but I have changed that out and get no display at all.
I took a razor blade to the control board connectors that had overlap solder joints. Not sure where else to test if I have 5v on control and 3.95v on LCD.

Hi.
;)

This means that something bad happens with the 5V power supply voltage in the LCD module.

Since we don't have a schematic diagram for this circuit, you can try to trace the path with the power supply voltage.
The Vss designation corresponds to the GND potential.
A Vdd is a 5V DC power supply.

First of all, I propose to measure the resistance between the extreme points of 5V (pin 1 of the connector and pad Vdd).
It should be 0 ohms.

Do the same with the GND potential.

Do you know where I can buy a new display? I need the display with a flat cable. See photo. Should I buy the control board and display combo? I have the GT2560 V3. Time to either print or return this unit.

Hello.
:D

Okay, I understand that you are no longer interested in finding an error. I understand it.
You can always write a message asking to buy new components to sales@geeetech.com. ;)
Describe your situation. Write in a message what printer model and controller board version you have.

I think there is a problem with your display module.

I am having a very similar problem with my display - all it will show are two lines of black squares. I have uploaded various different firmware versions to no avail. I am getting a steady 5V at all of the test points (@_kaktus_). I have reseated the FFC many times and have even tested the resistance on all 40 pins - all are good. The 2560v3.0 mainboard was just replaced and all other components work. I can't figure out why this controller/display won't work and if i need to replace it as well. Please help!

Hi.

In your case I expect that:

The display should be functional.
Probably the controller board does not start properly. As a result, the display is not properly controlled.

Let me expand on my problem...
This started with a spark on the a10m hot end while i was trying to remove curling filament with tweezers. This caused the entire machine to go dark except for the fan on the power supply. The short was likely caused by loose thermister wires contacting the hot end via the tweezers. At that time the display would not light up at all. I have since replaced the main board with a brand new unit of the exact same model. Now everything works besides the display. Is it possible something on my display controller fried when the whole thing shorted?

By the way, i tested the PSU power output and there was no problem with that. Also, remember, the printer will work when directed by the computer. How do i fix this? If i can't fix it, how do i order a new display? i can't find this particular unit sold anywhere with the 40 pin flat flexible cord.

Hi.

It is possible that an overvoltage has occurred and your display module has also been destroyed.
This does not have to be visible.

Geeetech LCD modules are a copyrighted solution. You can order a new one from the manufacturer. See above, I have specified an email address.
