First 5-10mm in Height are fine, then only thin layers
First 5-10mm in Height are fine, then only thin layers
Hi there,
maybe this problem is so simple that it never came up but I searched the forum and didn't find a solution.
I'm using the I3 Pro B with repetier-host and the following probem arises:
The first 5-10mm in Height, the print is fine, but then the layers printed become so thin/filigrane that you even can see through the "net". It seems as if the extruder doesn't output enough filament. Maybe this is just a misconfiguration in the software settings but I cannot find any. As a next step I'd try with the EasyPrint Software as soon as possible, but maybe anyway someone has a hint what is going wrong.

Hello.
Too thin a layer may be due to malfunctioning of the Z-axis mechanisms. Any anomalies can be easily seen by observing the clutch. You will see if there is an even rotation.
Perform tests and watch to see if the head rises to the correct height.
During the tests, you can take distance measurements.

Re: First 5-10mm in Height are fine, then only thin layers
At first - really my bad - it was an error with the filament diameter setting, there was a typo, it was set to 1.5mm instead of 1.75. which resulted in the right object in my attached picture. I hope you forgive me and the thread should maybe get renamed.
Now I have a result like the left one when printing the funnel. As you can see, the rejuvenation part has Blobs and Zits, but the main 2 problems arising here are:
- as on the second picture attached, you can see that at the top of the inclined part, there are holes which you can see through
- the upper part looks really crappy, i have no idea what causes this
Thanks a lot for the fast replies you gave, i really appreciate your help!

Hi
I wonder what is the wall thickness at this point of the model.

Hey,katze
I think you can check these:
1.Set the layer to 0.1mm,first is 0.3mm
2.Control the extruder move then check the nozzle clogged or not
3.Check the X carriage won't waving at printing
4.Check the Z axis wobbling or not

Re: First 5-10mm in Height are fine, then only thin layers
The wall thickness wasn't the problem but it seems as if the nozzle was temporary clocked - in between I also changed the slic3r settings; now the result is ok but I can not clearly say what caused the problem.
Now, printing the famous benchy3d ship the following problem came up: Printing the perimeters the underlying layers are "soft", the nozzle compresses them a little while printing on them. This results in an ugly surface and vaults.
I'm using the config file from here https://www.geeetech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18536 with a heatbed temperature of 65°C and 195°C at the nozzle.
Maybe someone has any idea what is causing this?

Re: First 5-10mm in Height are fine, then only thin layers
Hi
I would try to lower the temperature a little.
The model looks as if the filament was too hot during printing.

Re: First 5-10mm in Height are fine, then only thin layers
Hi kaktus,
I went down with the temperature step by step until I reached 180°C and still no luck. It even looks worse I think - while the black sprinkles are only from the black filament I used in prints before.
I then decided to print PLA temp-towers for black and orange as you can see in the attachment. Don't be surprised the black one ending too soon, the printer threw it over and I didn't want to print the model again.
Well now I have these towers (with temperatures ranging from 180 to 220°C in steps of 5 degrees) but I don't have an idea how to interprete the results. The orange filament seems to tend to stringing even if I never realized this in my other prints. Any ideas?
As a first step, I maybe should stick to one filament to not have another factor in the equation.
Some words only: You guys are really doing a great job here concerning support and help! Very fast, very friendly and really helpful.

I think you can remove the tpfe tube off and check it.
Then check the cooling fan work or not.
