Which slicers work best with A30?

Post by anrkii » Mon Oct 29, 2018 4:45 am

My A30 is still pausing during large prints, screen displays print paused, and the hotend returns to home position, nozzle heat and bed switch off. I can press the resume button, but if the bed cools first then the print releases and fails. I cant complete any larger prints because of this issue.
New 24V model of A30,upgraded firmware to the latest, did not fix the problem. Still pauses at random. I did the firmware updates without taking the box apart to remove the hidden SD card, is that something that has to be done? The firmware seems to have flashed ok.
I am using Cura 3.5.1 . Do you think there is something wrong with the printer itself or am I getting Gcode errors? Should I try an older Cura version?
I have no Idea what to try next.

I downloaded Slic3r PE and will try some of these files again. If it works, I wont be using Cura any more.
Also, what G-code flavor is used with this printer? Marlin?

Simplify 3D works great as well, although it is an expensive software.
Since the A30 is a Creality CR-10 clone, most of the slicer settings work good for it. You can start with a base CR-10 profile and modify it to fit the A30.

I have a pretty solid profile I'll share if anyone with Simplify3D is interested.

I started slicing using slic3r PE. The print quality is a little better, and it was easier to dial in the printer than Cura. I still get a random pause during prints, not as often as before, however.

Hello,
I also use S3D with the A30. I would like to test your profile.

Here's two A30 profiles you can experiment with:

Best?
Maybe you can try to use the slic3r then set the layer to 0.1mm

I fixed my pausing issue. One particular SD card I was using would cause the printer to pause at random, it wasnt a firmware or a slicer issue.
I did purchase S3D, and I am glad that I did. There is a pre-set profile for the A30 in S3D that actually works, the thin-walled printing and support structures in S3D are fantastic. The interface isnt as pretty as Cura, but the printing results are amazing. I was reluctant to drop $150 on software but I am glad that I did.
