LCD problem

Post by RepMike » Thu Sep 13, 2018 4:01 am

Hello,

I've just received my new A10 and while following the steps in the quickstart guide, I'm stuck. I cannot get the LCD display connected to the cable. I've already contacted the support but I thought it would also be helpful for the support to see an actual photo as I couldn't submit a photo with the support contact form.

While connecting I've noticed that the brown connector fell out. I did try very gently, so it could not have been from me pushing the cable in. Moreover this wouldn't be my first connector of this type which I've connected successfully. I've also noticed that the white part on the board on the side of the connector broke out, so there is no chance of getting any connection. When I did try though, I've smelled a burnt smell out of the controller box while the LCD display was flickering yellow. But the cable wouldn't hold. So I stopped assembly with this point open, having an unusable printer for now.

Can support send me a replacement for the connector? Or tell me how I can proceed.

Would other LCD 2004 versions also work? (I have some laying around, but they have those bulkier floppy disk like cables. ) Where could I buy this LCD anyways? I haven't found it anywhere ... what would be the search terms for it? I only can find the other type with the bulky floppy cables.

Thank you in advance for any help
Michael

Hi.

It's sad what happened to you.
The connector is mechanically damaged, we know it. :?
Fortunately, it is not up to me to decide whether you have received it or have inadvertently damaged it.

If you want to try to repair yourself you have two outputs. ;)
  • replace the damaged socket with a new one.(FFC connector, GTK ZIFHA40-0.5BF-R)
Replacement of this element is not easy, because of the fine raster of the leads.
  • place the dark latch in place and try to glue the cracked element.
I think the contact adhesive could work, but you must be careful not to glue the item that is to be movable.

From your description I also conclude that the 5V power supply on the controller board could have been damaged, or a short circuit has occurred (
Display flickering, stench)
,
I suggest to check at the beginning if all connections are made correctly.

I have contacted Gearbest which is where I got it from. They said they would send me a replacement but I haven't received a replacement yet.

For now, it's a warranty thing, but for later, how would I get a replacement LCD unit? Where can I order it? I have tried to find one, there are thousands of LCD2004 units on the market, but I haven't found that one with the FFC40 connector.

Hi

Do not worry anyways. ;)
Displays don't break down often.
Can you show a photo of your module :?:
Maybe I will be able to tell you more afterwards.
:D
