GT2560 just freezes and connection is lost

Post by geeebert » Tue Sep 11, 2018 1:15 am

I have a big problem with my Geeetech i3 Pro B printer with a GT2560 board.

Small objects (e.g. 20mm calibration cube) are printed fine an i managed to calibrate the printer.

When printing bigger objects at some random point (each time different, not only during layer change or whatever) the printer just stops, extruder and bed heaters stay on and the connection to the host is lost.

What i tried until now:

- all firmwares i could get (Marlin 1.14, 1.18, 1.19, 2.0)
- different USB cables
- print from SD
- changed drivers (DRV8825)
- debug using "dry print" (w/o extruder / heaters) -> "printing" also stops
- print with display disconnected and firmware compiled accordingly
- different PSU
- Repetier and Octoprint

Still the problem exists. The vendor (warrenau250 on ebay) stopped communicating with me, although i have warranty here in Germany. I even offered him to buy a replacement GT2560 on amazon if he refunded me the cost for the board (but even if that was the case, i am not sure if it had worked).

What i did then - to progress with my projects: i bought a Geeetech A10 which really works nicely!

But of course i also would like to get my I3 Pro B running.

Can anybody help me?

Regards,

Robert

Hi

Have you written that the controller board model is GT2560 and which version? A? A+, B?

It's hard to say anything concrete about it. However, I would be inclined to say that this is not related to the controller.

Such unexpected pauses, sometimes longer pauses, sometimes shorter ones, are also found in other models.
This can be a complex problem.

It is a GT2560 A+

It is not just a pause (or, if you consider it one: a neverending pause ;-) ), after the printer freezes, the connection is lost and heaters would stay on forever, if one would not intervene manually.

As you write you think it is not the board - what could it be then? There is not much left as i could rule out:

- bed heater (problem happens in dry run, so not used)
- extruder heater (same here)
- PSU

The Nema 17's all seem to work correctly and their temperature does not rise above 35°C

Any suggestions what else should be checked or where to start?

;)

The problem is that I don't know the GT version of controllers and it's hard to judge.
So everything I say will be an attempt to guess. Do you understand, right :?:

Try to get acquainted with the problem presented by another colleague from the forum.
Tell if your situation is similar.

I can guess that the µc is suspended from the controller plate during operation.
This situation can be caused by hardware and/or software. :?

Is there access to the printer menu during symptoms and can something be done there :?:
