Firmware upgrade prevents saving of leveling settings (v1.26.36)

Post by NathanZ » Thu Aug 23, 2018 6:24 am

I’ve recently updated my E180 firmware using the provided Toolkit. The printer status now reports 1.29.36 however EasyPrint3d still reports v1.00.36

Seems not the leveling is not being saved, and each time easyprint connects (causing reboot of printer) the leveling is reset back to default. Is this a known issue in the firmware or is there a trick to getting the setting to save?

Same with v1.32.41 as well as some other issues.

@NathanZ Can you post your screenshot about wrong version information in here?

Easyprint connecting would cause serial port reset and let the printer enter boot/standard mode(reboot), that's normal.

Screenshot attached

The issue with the reboot is that the printer no longer retains the level setting between boots. So each time I need to remember to go in and manually set the level - where as before I updated the setting was retained. Given the printer reboots for each cancel of a job, this can get quite annoying.

Also - unrelated to the update - Easyprint > Control > Fan speed seems to be out by a factor of 4. IE if I set the fan speed through control to 40, the printer actually sets to ~10. If I set to 120, printer sets to 40. etc etc.

Don't bother with the toolkit, it gives old firmware. Download Smartto-tool V1.1 from
https://github.com/Geeetech3D/Smartto-T ... plications
then get the latest two E180 firmware versions for the mainboard and screen (currently these are E180_APP_M_V1.32.41.bin and E180_APP_S_V1.32.41.bin) from
http://geeetech.com/firmware/
Use Smartto-tool to flash the mainboard firmware first (the one with the 'M' in the filename) then the screen firmware ('S'). The printer will reboot and a flash progress appears on the LCD as the screen is updated. When complete the version should be reported correctly. You'll need to level the bed again after this but it should now stick between reboots.

No dice - selected E180_App_M_V1.32.41.bin and I get an error related to updating the LCD!
I've removed the screen firmware from the same folder as the mainboard but same result.

On a whim I decided to try the E180_APP_S_V1.32.41.bin file. Lo and behold it was detected as a mainboard file!
The upgrade succeeded, but still cannot apply the M file for the LCD - same error as previous post.

The printer now reports v1.29.41 (not 1.32.41 OR 1.29.36)
EasyPrint3d reports - blank -

Long way to go before Geeetech is consumer ready.

@NathanZ It seems like you didn't insert TF card into printer.

No - because why would you? It's supposedly for transferring print models not firmware updates. So all the toolkit does it transfer the bin files to the TF card which are then loaded on boot?

Update works with card in slot - perhaps some clear and documented firmware update instructions could be produced and included in the user manual, or even a clear post in the forums.

Also note the comment on the S and M files, toolkit reads M as for the screen and S as for mainboard.

Thanks for the help.

Sadly - leveling setting is still not being saved between boots.

Try it again on both files with the TF card in the slot. Looks like its only done part of the update if you aren't getting the right version reported.
