hot end wont get hot

Post by david palinskee » Fri Apr 06, 2018 7:03 am

I recently purchased this printer. but have not been able to get it to print. my first problem was the stepper motors stuttering. i loosened the timing belts and that solved most of that problem. Z still gives a stutter on occasion.

But my problem now is when I try to print the extruder won't heat up to temp. The bed heats up just fine and I get feedback on the display and computer of the temp going up to the setpoint. However the extruder will start to get hot. It would show a temp rise to about 170 / 200c. Then the display on the printer will read....0 / 200. The computer using repetier will show the same. That was a couple of days ago. Tried it now and it will only read 0 / 200c. I have checked the connection at the extruder motor and at the controller board. Everything looks ok.

Any ideas would help.

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. I start heating in the repetier host application and it says that the heating has started. But the LCD-printer display and the computer screen shows always o°and nothing changes. I've checked the cabeling. Everything seems to be ok. I tried to measure a voltage where the hotend cable is connected at the extruder interface board but I get always 0V. I've expected something like 24V, 12V or something else but not 0V.
What can be the issue?? Firmware: 1.0.03 Protokol Version: 1.0

Hi,
we have exactely the same Problem. Everything works but the hotend won't get hot. We've checked all Connections. Everything seems to be o.k.
The repetier Software says, that the heating is in Progress but the temperature does not change. We tried to measure a voltage at the connector where the hotend cable is screwed in. We expected 24VDC, 12VDC or something similar but there is nothing. So it seems that the Controller board does not work correctly. Can it be hardware failure or Software e.g. Firmware issue?? Can we get some Support about this issue? We have the actual Firmware 1.0.03 installed. Does anybody know which Voltage is used to power the hotend? Are there schematics available? We Need the Printer, so it would be nice to get some Support.

Hi,
I've solved the Problem. It was my fault. While checking the cabeling again, I recognized that I had plugged in the cable for Extruder 0 into the connector for no.2 and reverse. I changed it to the correct Connection like described in the Building Manual, and now it runs well.
Sorry for that.

Hi, vuanm
Do you mean when you extrude 100mm for example, the actual extruded filament is not exact 100mm instead of 80mm or 110mm,
and you want to calibrate it?

Si esatto come diamine si calcolano i passi per gestire l'estrusione? C'è un programmino?

1, You can refer to this post:
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=60639&p=82054

2, If you know the original steps/mm in your firmware, you can also use this formula :
(Proper Extruded MM * Current Steps)/(Measured Extruded MM)
to calculate extruder steps/mm, then edit it in firmware.
