Printer goes off/restarts while printing
Printer goes off/restarts while printing
Hi Guys,
i have the following problem:
My printer, a Geeetech i3 Pro B (8 months old), suddenly starts to turn itself off in the middle of the print process. After that shutdown the 3d-print is ruined, of course. But this shutdown only lasts 5 to 10 seconds. After that time the printer is on again. Completely restarted.
I tried to replace the power supply, because i suspected it to be faulty. I replaced it with one of my friends printer power supply. The exact same printer, with the same power supply, but this did not solve the problem. Sometimes the printer resets after 5 minutes or sometimes after hours and hours of continuous printing.
While i examined the problem, i saw that my power connector on my GT2560 Board is burned/black. I uploaded a photo of the power cable. Is this normal? I measured the voltage of my power supply and it says 11,97 V while running the printer.
Is there anything that i can do to get a stable printer which is reliable again? It is only 8 months old, and I only used about 1kg of PLA with it. So it should be not that old.
greets from germany

Re: Printer goes off/restarts while printing
It happened again... just right now. The print was running for about 15 mins. Printer turned off. I checked the 12V on the power supply unit with my multimeter. 12V power seems to be okay, no voltage drop.
This is my second confirmation that the power supply is not faulty, because i had it replaced for testing.
Does Geeetech has any kind of guarantee or something? its only 8 month old

Re: Printer goes off/restarts while printing
You have better to test the voltage when the problem happened ,the black power connector indicates that it has overcurrent ,what is more ,the problem you meet is similar to what others have met too ,you are able to have a try changing the usb transmission line or SD card.
-Keep your mind and try to test it.

Re: Printer goes off/restarts while printing
Hi William,
yes, i measured the voltage when the problem happened. But the power supply looked OK. 12V.
"you are able to have a try changing the usb transmission line or SD card." What do you mean by that?
I tried printing via USB and printing via SD Card. The "Random-Power-Off-Problem" occurred with both options.

Re: Printer goes off/restarts while printing
I meant that you could print via other different usb lines or other different SD card that play a role in the problem of random power off.

Re: Printer goes off/restarts while printing
Hi William,
Ok, now I tried 3 different USB lines (i hope you meant USB cable?) on different USB-Ports on my PC AND my Laptop. I also tried 2 different SD-Cards. But it still shuts itself off and on. Sometimes after 4-5 mins (after heating) and sometime after hours of successfull printing without problems.

Re: Printer goes off/restarts while printing
Do you print via Repetier or Easyprint or SD, could you show me the faulty recorded in the journal,I want to find
where is the faulty.

Re: Printer goes off/restarts while printing
Most of the time i print via SD card, because i dont want to run my PC over night. But I use Repetier to create the gcode. What do you mean by "journal"? I tried to google "Repetier journal" but didnt find anything useful. Do you mean the temperature curves?

Re: Printer goes off/restarts while printing
Okay, i try to save the logs, when the printer goes off.
But the burned power connections àre still remaining. The socket on the board an the plug are burned.
And now it looks like the power plug is burned/molten. The plastic seems to dissolve. I feel like it is no longer save to run that printer without i am being around it.
You said it is a common problem? Why isn't that fixed? Does Geeetech replace this?
... While i am writing this... my printer went off again.
I copied the logs:
https://pastebin.com/gWv38tzD
It went off around 11:27:40.725. The board thinks it is printing like normal, but the servos are not moving.
I think its the heavily burned cable and socket. I touched the cable slightly and the printer went on again. I think the connections are burned out.
Next question: Why is this so? Why is this burned? Is this a bad electronic design? Is there a geeetech warranty?
I mean, I am capable of desoldering the socket from the board, and chrimp a new plug. But what next? Do i have to replace the connections every 6 months?
