The Z button working right !!!!
but the Y and the X no go
Changed steppers around
Knob still does not work

I don't know where you in the World but I know here in Australia we have been at this since 7 oclock last night and it is now all most 9 oclock in the morning So I am willing to keep going if you are

It's stange that your motors aren't working corectely because your configuration (in terms of stppers/motors) should be identical to mine...
But if your motord don't have any holding torque I guess there is something wrong with your stepper drivers.
Did you get the x-motor to work if you unplug your z_motor and plug the x motor in instead? (To verfy that your connection to the motor is good)

I think I'cant find it out quickly (if I press on "email nutts" I get an email client from geeetech)
To find out my email addres just add "@gmail.com" behind my username.
I just don't want to write it directely so that automatic email-address search services are unable to send me spam :D

So if my username would be "testuser" the address would be "testuser@gmail.com"...

Yes all motors worked when power was put on them. but not when hooked up in correct order.
only the Z motor worked correctlly

Ok so it must have something to do with the stepper drivers / if they are enabeled...
Have your tried swapping the z-Motor driver with the y-Motor driver?

Can you see (in the printer software for pc) if the endstops of the axis are triggered / working correctely?

If you have access to an multimeter again you can test if the driver is getting supply voltage:

between vdd and gnd. But be carefull not to short the two pins with the testing leads of the multimeter.

I just tested when the motors do have holding force...
Directely after powering up my printer the motors do not have any holding force. Only after homing / moving an axis with the move-axis menu with the lcd I can feel an holding torque.

Hi Nutts,

because I have not got an email from you jet, I will just continue using the forum for now...

So i have a list of things you could try to solve the issuse with the motors:
I just checked if there is not any difference between the pin assignement in the firmware of geeetech and the marlin 1.1.x which I configured. I checked all pins asignements for the stepper drivers and they seem identical. So it's very unlikely that the motor issuses are caused by software.

1) Can you check if the Extruder motor moves? In order for that to work your hotend- / extrudertemperature must be above 170°C. It's a protective feature that the Motor doesn't grind away the fillament if it's cold / stuck in the nozzle. So I recommend you set your temperature to 190°C and then try to move the motor.

2) Have you tried swapping out the stepper drivers / move the one from z to x and the one from x to z for example?

Regarding the issuse with the encoder/turning knob:
0) Dissconnect the power cable from the wall-socket! / Make sure you are not powering the gt2560!
Otherwise you can fry the multimter...

1) First try to locate the contacts directely at the turning knob. On my board this are 7 solder joints: (see picture "knob.png" for reference)
There are two big ones which are relatively far apart from each other.
Those are only for holding the knob in place.

Two solder joints are next to each other and my multimeter says high resistance when the knob is not pressed
and low resistance (beep in diode mode) when the knob is pressed. Because pressing the knob works for you this is
not interesting for us...

The turning knob has 3 solder joints in row, those are to let the microcontroller know in which direction the knob was turned.
If you turn the knob by one step for me all three joints have zero resistance. If you turn the nob one step further then there is no connection between the pins.
You can ferfy that the connection is open with a multimeter in diode/beep mode.

2) Now turn the knob in a position so that there is no contact between the three pins. Test that with a multimeter.
(This is important for the next step because only then we can test if all the pins arrive at the microcontroller individualy!)

3) See picture "connections_knob_board.jpg":
Put one test lead of the multimeter (in diode / beep mode) to middle pin of the three pins which handle rotation detection.
Turn your gt2560 board so that you can read the "GT2560 Rev A" label aswell as the label on the atmega2560 microcontroller.
Now slide the other lead of the multimeter over set of pins on the right side of the atmega2560. Somewhere in the middle of the pin row you shoud get an beep.

Next move the lead at the knob to one of the outer pins of the "three pin row". Because I don't know in which direction the knob is placed on your lcd combo panel i can' tell you which outer pin is which.
One of the outer pins has contact with a pin on the right side of the atmega2560 at the bottom of the pin row. The other one has connection to the lower row of pins somewhere at the right of the pin row.


Do you get all three connections?

If yes then it is very likely that this is still a software / firmware problem.

If no check the cable (it should be the sd cable) if it's still good. And check the traces on the gt2560 from the socket to the atmega2560.
Basically you need to track where the connection is broken starting from the knob how far you have connection with all three pins.
