Prusa i3 Pro B - can't get it to print 1st time

Post by briansone » Tue Dec 27, 2016 12:05 pm

I am using a Mac, OS X 10.11.6.

I need some help... Haven't been able to print my first 3D print, or even get the extruder moving.

-I have built/wired the pro B. So far, so good.
-To install the Marlin firmware I rolled back to Arduino 1.0.6 to get around the compile error with later versions --> "using typedef-name 'fpos_t' after 'struct'." Success.

- Arduino suggested a more up to date driver for the board --> updated.
- I downloaded Repetier Host & installed. Success.
- I d/l & installed Repetier Firmware x through this link - http://www.repetier.com/firmware/v092/ & uploaded the Repetier.ino file through Arduino. Arduino successfully uploaded but the LCD screen now has only blocked display & constantly make a quiet, metallic screeching noise.

Despite LCD screen issues i tried to print a basic .stl with Repetier Host. If I set baud = 115200 I at least get extruder temperature updates coming into Repetier Host, but when i slice-->"run" it gives me a printing ETA of 6m:35s, but nothing else happens & the log just goes back to giving me extruder temperature updates.

Any ideas? I've spent so long trying to get this to work I need a fresh opinion.

Update - removing/reinstalling Marlin driver fixed the LCD & screeching & I thought it would then be wise to try & print from a gcode file on an SD card.

The result is the same as when hitting 'run' in Repetier Host... the Pro B doesn't do anything. I can see the file on the LCD screen & select it just fine, then i just see the following screen. Looks like the extruder & heat bed aren't getting started/not heating up.

Also - i should add, in case it helps narrow in on the real issue. I can move all axes through "Prepare" --> "Move axis" --> "Move..." so all motors seem to be functioning.

Any ideas?

Did you have the right slicer settings in Slic3r?
You can attach the Gcode file if possible.

https://www.dropbox.com/home?preview=gcode.gcode

Please let me know if you notice anything. thanks - brian.

To further help diagnose, I tried to print one of the gcode files from the prusa drivers file, ABS_2x_3DHubs_Marvin_1H.gcode
...
same result - I click the file (through LCD screen navigation) & nothing happens

Did you set the right parameters(temp for extruder and heatbed) as the user manual told?
Then how about printing via USB?
