complete failure -- power trouble

Post by daveapplemotors » Sun Oct 23, 2016 5:43 am

The plug from the heater power to the board melted. I had just finished a 4 hour print and wanted to start a small print when the power went out.

When the Bed Heating was complete and just when the nozzle heater started the whole thing lost power. The screen went blank but the unit rebooted immediately.

I looked inside and saw a burnt melted part. The connector on the board is fused to the connector for the heater power wires.
Here is a link to one photo== https://www.dropbox.com/home/Camera%20U ... .15.18.jpg

Anyone know how to fix this? What caused it?

Update on power trouble:
The pins and connector for the heaters on the board are not large enough for 40 watt heaters.

Solution:
I soldered both pos and neg heater wires to the back of the board. The pins were burned on the front of the board. There was no way to solder to the front of the board because of the burn damage.

Results:
Yay!
It gains heat in the bed during a print now. Instead of cooling from 108 to 102 with the target set at 108 it can now start at 102 and get to 108 in 30 minutes while printing.
Also the cooling fan inside the control box does not change speeds now when bed heating is finished. Before I could hear the fan speed up when the bed reached target temperature.

It must have been a bad connection on my board from day one.
