BLocked extruder

Post by tassat01 » Sat Jul 02, 2016 2:44 am

HI there

After trying abs I got my new roll of pla and descided to change back. After my few little small prints i descided to print the birdcage from SDCard. It started printing ok and towards the halfway it seems the material was thinning out. when doing a manual feed after heating the pla to 200c and pressing the feed in the repetier host the pla doesnt seem to just flow out and blundles around the print head sticking to it.

As you can see from the photo it started printing ok but then went bad.

First failure big failure after 3weeks.

Maybe it was clogged after you changed the filament...have you cleared it?

When I tried another print after removing the filament whilst doing the first 2 laps before printing it progressive went thinner. What is the easiest way to unblock.

Hi,
If the nozzle is clogged indeed, please clean it with drill.
1. Stopping the nozzle with repetier host, then move nozzle away from printing object.
2. Heating extruder (PLA190°-210°,ABS 230°-250°),pull out filament from nozzle to prevent further clog.
3. Clean surplus jam with drill, please be careful and gentle as there is a tube in nozzle. Please do not damage the tube when cleaning jam .
4. Replug the filament to nozzle after cleaning jam.
5.Here are some videos showing how to clean the jam, please check this post:

thanks for the info.

Wasnt that complicated to unblock after all. Removed the head and soaked in acetone for a while and cleaned it.

Did notice though when doing manual extrusion it lieks to clump around the nozzle.

I think the easiest thing is as nozzles are cheap to get a few spare also of differnt sizes, then when moving to abs and back to pla to do a nozzle change.

Im doing a print now of the nested bird house and ill post the pic when completed.

Thanks again for the help

thanks for the info, unblocking was a very painless thing to do.
One thing i will do is get a few spare extruders.
Heres the print of the same item. Looks way better

My extruder is not clogged byt my printer is not printing anything!
If I suspend the print, rise the nozzle and manually force extrusion, it works fine, tons of PLA come out...
But as soon as printing restart, nothing comes out from the nozzle, even lowering a little the printing plate, just in case the nozzle was touching it. I left 2mm space, no PLA seen. :-(
I am using repetier host with a prusa i3 printer.

:D Hi, You can check if your extruder motor can run normally,
If the motor does not run normally,
The normal running motor line and the extruder motor line can be exchanged and checked (the position of the motor port on the motherboard is not exchanged);
Check the spring tension of the feeder.

I hope this can help you.
