Y axis moves only on one direction, and...

Post by rockerey » Wed May 18, 2016 4:23 am

Hello guys!

I just finished building my very first 3D printer, which is an acrylic Geeetech Prusa I3 Pro B.

After the initial issues (inverted axis, Zaxis threaded rods wobbling, etc.) that I resolved there's still an issue that doesn't let me keep going with the configuration and start printing:

The Y axis stepper motor works just fine, but for some reason on the Repetier Host when I do the auto-home the Y axis it only moves on one direction and just for a bit. It doesn't go up till the endstop, it just moves for like 5 mm and then stop.

Plus, when I try to move it with manual controls the Y axis moves only on the direction towards the endstop but not on the opposite way. It only moves on the opposite way when it comes back (for example, when I rotate the knob +10 mm and I rotate it back so it comes back) but it doesn't go further. Also, when I auto-home several times and I make the bed reach the Y axis end stop, it doesn't stop, it keeps going like it doesn't detect the end stop.

Thank you for your attention, hope you will help me :)

I think your Y aixs endstop might be open circuit, check the connection between the metal parts on the endstop
and the wires, see if there a bad contact. Or have you plugged it in the wrong connector?

My endstop seems working. The Y-axis stepper motor seems to work as well (it moves with no problems), but for some reason the commands seem to only work on one direction. Both on Repetier Host and on the printer display when I try to make the bed go backwards it doesn't move, at all. It only moves forward, towards the endstop. And when I try to auto-home the Y-axis it moves forward to the endstop but not moving completely but just a little bit and then stops.

Now I tried to disconnect the endstop and move the Y-axis but it still gives me that issue. I even tried to perform the auto-home first, as I read that the printer moves correctly only once the auto-home has been run first, but still no good results.

Guys, I tried to exchange the wiring and put the Y-axis motor in the X-axis plug and now the problem is on the other motor. That means that the stepper motors are fine and there is something with the board / electronics / firmware. Now that I tried exchanging, the Y-axis stepper motor that used to not home now it goes home straight without stopping but the X-axis stepper motor, when I try to home it, it moves slightly towards the home but it stops continuously just right after 1 second I press the home button.

I even tried to tune the driver voltage but everything seems okay. What is wrong then? Please help me, It's been a week since I completed building my first printer and I'm still not able to print my first print!
