Replacement control board and drivers

I am running a Prusa I3 M201 with GTM32 control card. Due to incorrectly installing a driver card into the control board there was some smoke and a whole lot of time and money wasted whilst I ordered new driver cards and control board from Geeetech. Having received the replacements, I (CAREFULLY!) reinstalled the control card and driver cards ensuring that they were the right way up but it appears I have the same problem and ... I think ... the control board has gone phut again! I did get an initial positive response and the display showed the normal screens but I was getting no response from the stepper motors and then the smoke from the control board. I have checked the install instructions again but I cannot be clear on the orientation of the driver boards - I installed the cards with the potentiometer at the top of the card ... is this right?

Is there any way of rescueing the control board and/or the driver boards or proving that they are OK? .. I am getting no display on the screen and stepper motors do not move. In the event that these are damaged, is there anywhere in the UK that I can source parts as the cost of parts and carriage via DHL is astronomical

what's your card's orientation looks like? do you have a picture? and how's your PSU wirings and board wirings?

Hi Mark,

I transferred the cables 1 by 1 from the old board to the new board so they should be in exactly the same positions. I think the new board was a Rev A (large USB plug rather than mini plub - but the board has Rev B printed by the name (see pictures)) rather than the original which was a Rev B board. Power supply has been operating successfully before the board blew up and I have not changed any settings or voltages on this so should be OK.

hi,friedn,you plug the drivers with wrong orientation,you also didn't unplug all the number 1 and number 2 jumper caps as shown in the pictures.

Thanks James. The pictures on the build instructions were not clear. I have reorientated the drivers on the board and removed the jumpers from pins 1 and 2 but, unfortunately, I still get smoke wafting off the board when I switch on and no activity whatsoever so I assume that the board has been zapped by my initial action?

I have reordered yet another board from Geeetech!

Can you advise if the driver boards would have survived the incorrect plugging or will these need to be replaced as well?

If the drivers are burned out, usually there will be a burning hole on the center of the driver chip, all my 4988 have such a black hole when burned out.
