i3 Dual: Problems with Y-Axis Assembly

Post by BrendaEM » Thu Oct 29, 2015 5:04 am

I have some problems with the Y-Axis assembly, and it appears that I cannot proceed on my kit.

1.) According to the manual, nothing seem to hold in the linear bearing rods to keep them from sliding out of place.
The rods can slide right out the back of the printer rear plate.

2.) It seem acrylic plates that make up the axis were made thicker, though now the motor mount screws are too short.
16mm is not long enough to engage the square nuts. Will other people have to cut screws too?

3.) Motor mount is still whimpy. Even with care I managed to crack the mount. There is too much flange, and not enough material to support the nut.

Grumbling: The rod finish is not great. The rod fit in the plates is rather loose.

Have you got the correct manual?

All the manuals need serious updating.

Using manuals and the videos I figured out that I needed to have collars with grubscrews on the shafts.

The Y-Axis motormount needs a redesign. Because they didn't want to put a large hole in the endplate, they made kept the part that projects into the endplate small, which means that the part is too weak, and quite easily cracked by the pressure from the nut, which is a square corner and stress concentration. The Y-motor mount projection needs to be taller, and the hole in the endplate needs to be larger.

The screws that hold the mount to the endplate should be 18mm, not 16. Apparently, the Y-endplates are thicker, and the screws no longer reach, under any circumstances.

Could you show me some pictures to see that?

Well, let me see. No, this message board not only monitors all posts, but also does not provide any kind of photo uploading.

Geeetech still hasn't replied to my request for a replacement part, as I was shipped 2 of z-left motor mounts and none of the right.
I plan to some youtube videos of the printer, and give a short review of the printer...and Geetech's customer service.
