Extruder port stopped working

Post by jaapschaap » Mon Jun 01, 2015 3:19 pm

Hi,

All was working fine, but suddenly (while i was printing) my printer stopped extruding.

This morning i wanted to test which part was defective. I tried to switch Y motor with the Extruder motor, and the Extruder worked from then on but Y didn't anymore.
It should be the board or the A4899 controller, to make sure i switched them but they all worked as expected, except when i used them for the extruder.

Any suggestions?

Your description is a little confusing.....
Here is my comprehension: After you swap extruder motor driver(A4988) with Y motor driver, the extruder motor can move but y motor can not.
If i am correct, I think the extruder motor driver is dead.

I did tried to swap the A4988 with al others! But without luck.

The e-motor output doesn't work, not with an other motor driver and not with other stepper motor connected.

But the extruder motor can not move unless the temperature of extruder is more than 180 degrees.

I think i had preheating activated @200C, but to be sure i will check when i get home!

If it is the A4988 there is no plroblem, cause i have lots of spares!

Thanks for support so far, i will report back later today.

It was indeed the motor driver! And the min. temp requirements were indeed the troublemaker in my quick test this morning!

Still weird that it stopped halfway on a printjob, but i use little higher temps now so it won't go beneath 180 degrees :)

Maybe the commucation between printer and computer is shut down for some unknown reason. You can try to print off-line with SD card, I think it won't stop printing in the half way.
