Let me know if this issue was resolved. I had the same concern and found a solution. If you are still in need I will share how I went about solving the problem.

You must drive the two steppers for Z axis by a driver, because they are always synchroning. There are two slots abreast near by Z axis stepper driver.

Of course there are 2 interface for 2 Z motors. You should extend one of the motors with a Dupont line, and the other interface for Z motor is below the second A4988

^^^ I would ask that you post a photo of this as I see only 4 motor connections (X, Y, Z and extruder). I do not find any place accessible for a second Z motor.

Please look at the picture. The dupont in the ellipse is used to connect one of the z motors.

my900ss wrote:The Sanguinolou board does not have two Z axis connectors. The optional Ramps 1.4 does... the Sanguinolou only has one Z axis motor connector... yet the kit comes with two Z axis motors.

1.) Take the 1st Z axis motor closest to the Sanguinolou board. Cut the white connector off 6" from the end of the power cable. You will now have a loose connector with 6" of wire attached.

2.) Take the 2nd Z axis motor power cable and cut the white connector off at the very end of the cable. This second connector will have almost no wire attached. You may discard this connector.

3.) Strip back insulation from the black, green, red and blue wires ~1/4". You will do this on the connector with the 6" of wire as well as the two Z axis motor power cables. 12 wires in total (3 black, 3 green, 3 red and 3 blue).

4.) twist together and tin with solder the 2 black wires, 1 each from the Z axis motors. Once connected insert this pair of wires into a solder less "butt connector" and crimp them together. http://static.grainger.com/rp/s/is/imag ... 01?$mdmain$

5.) Repeat step 4 on the green, red and blue wires from the two Z axis motors.

6.) Insert and crimp the black wire from the connector with 6" of wire cut in step 1 into the butt connector with the black pair of wires from the two Z axis motors (the pair of wires enter the butt connector from the right and the single wire from the connector enters from the left) and you crimp both sides, thus making an electrical connection.

7.) Repeat step 6 on the green, red and blue wires. You will now have the Z axis motors wired together in parallel.

8.) From the I3 Mendel Printer Bill Of Materials locate item 64 ( 4 pin male - 4 pin female Dupont cable) Plug the male end into the white connector at the end of your now parallel Z axis motors.

9.) Plug the female end of the Dupont cable into the Sanguinololu board at the location designated for the Z axis motor.

You are now from that single Z axis plug driving both Z axis motors. You may need to adjust the gain on the Z axis motor driver board (item 76) to get a smooth drive from the Z axis as this is now driving two motors.

Let me know if these written directions are clear, and I hope this solves your issue.

Regards,

Troy

Can someone flag this as wrong/invalid. The process may be correct but it is not needed because there IS two z-axis motor pin sets...
