Extruder heats up and shuts off stopping print

I tried to print a sample block, the printer preheated and started printing pla at 185, then after a minute the temp jumped to 225 and the extruder shuts off. It happened 3 times. Is there a setting I need in repetier? Everytime I make new settings and save them the settings change on there own. Seems like the printer is running fine then just starts acting funny. it tries to Z home way past the z end stop then the motors start jamming. Other times it rides just fine.

now the extruder isnt working

I lost count of how many days I've wasted in this machine. This thing is never going to work. I finally got the motors running even after bent rods and scew parts that aren't close the square now I find the bearings on the bed are grinding and the x axes grinds and jumps. Now the extruder gave out, won't respond when sent a command from repetier.
