I sent a m119 through repetier host for each endstop. They all showed open. Then i would hold each endstop down and sent another m119 each time and they would show triggered for the one i pressed. That rules out the end stops. I have updated the firmware, no luck. I have swapped around the steppers and still the same problem.

Yeah, It show that your endstops are all right. Now I have some advices:
1) click Auto Home buttom on Repetier or LCD screen, and see the result.
2) exchange Z axis stepper driver with another, and see if the follow the stepper driver or still in Z axis.

same result. I exchanged the steppers as on of the first things when i was troubleshooting. I just retried and the same results happen, the z axis will only move up. I have swapped motors too, and the same issue

Oh, we've tried every possible solution. Seems the board is broken, please contact customer service, let them send you a new one. Don't worry, before sending, I will test it for you.

For Mega2560/RAMPS 1.4

I found a solution that immediately worked for me - The directions provided on the build instructions were inaccurate regarding the wiring of the end stops: end stops should be vertical (not horizontal)

**see attached pics (top picture shows jumpers marked in red, this is what I found in the instructions and will result in axis only operating in one direction) ~
(lower pic with jumpers marked in green is the correct pins and immediately corrected problem for me resulting in all axis would now move in both directions). :D

** NOTE: always turn off and disconnect all power and discharge any static by grounding yourself (touch a metal object that is grounded) before touching/working on your circuit board(s)

Thank you for your carefulness. We noticed this problem recently, if you amplify the older picture, you can see which pin are circled. But because we highlighted it with a color which is not obvious enough, many of our customers connected wronly. We sincerely apologize for this. Now you don't have to worry you connect wrongly, because we've changed the color.
Thank you again. :D
