If I have two products, both of which have active patents. Can I patent the "app" or how I would like to use them together, and if so, what is the name of the process and is there any specific information I need to know in order to proceed with the patent?

Theoretically, you might be able to get a patent for a new and non-obvious use of an existing product, but in reality, such patents are almost impossible to get. Ideally, you should have some sort of evidence or logical reason why someone doesn't usually combine the two.
