I3 Pro B Retraction impossible

Post by Bugsia » Sat Jul 25, 2020 6:50 pm

Hello there,

I have an Geetech i3 Pro B 3D Printer and I can´t retract.
I use Cura as an Slicer Software and even when I use 1mm retraction distance it jams and the filament is bigger at the end.
I have tried plenty of things, bit nothing helps.
Even the recommended settings(3mm at 40mm/s) doesnt work.

What can I do?

Hi Bugsia,
Without knowing the details - as you've not given us the material you're using, temps or print speed...
I'll have a guess at where I'd start looking.
1) I'd look at the nozzle/throat tube interface...
Is there a gap between the throat tube and nozzle inside the heater block ? - They should be tight together.
2) Is there any heat damage to the PTFE tube at the end of the throat tube (Close to the nozzle) ?
- That would also cause the same problem as point (1)
3) Is the hotend cooling fan working correctly ? - That's the fan that runs constantly at the side of the extruder.
Label should not be visible - ie towards the heatsink.
(Failure here would allow heat to travel up the filament -'Creep' and the filament could swell and jam.)
Try lifting the nozzle and controlling manually.
Can you extrude and retract in cycles whilst the nozzle if lifted ? (You could use Repetier to try this)
Gerry

I print at 195 degrees celcius and use the grey Pla of geeetech.
My Layer Higth is 0.2mm and I print at 40 mm/s.
And I doesnt have any fan for the hotend, as it also wasnt with the printer.
The PFTE Tube is new and they are tigth together.

Thank you, but it didn´t worked.

I tested today to slice and print it with Repetier Host(Slic3r) and the preset file that you can download.
With that settings I can retract, so it doesnt jam up.
I will try to get it work with Slice3r, but I would prefer Cura.
Do I have to change some other settings in Cura?

Okay, thank you for the information.

I just did some testing and it still doesn´t really works.
It would be really nice, if you could send me your settings in Slic3r of the Print,Filament and Printer.

Best regards.

Thank you for your Config File.

I did some testing and it didnt really worked.
Because of the Retraction the Filament gets pulled longer in the Throat Tube and the extruder beginns to skip an click.

Should I maybe get an better throat tube with an better heat break. rigth now I have some off Amazon, because my original ones broke.
Here the link to my current throat tube: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B06XD3ZK6T/ref ... UTF8&psc=1
