Octopi lose connection to Printer

Post by Martinus73 » Wed Feb 19, 2020 4:22 am

Hello @ll,
I'm new here and hope to find answers. I searched the Forum but did not find a solution… so here is my question / problem… ;)

On Christmas I got an Acrylic Prusa I3 Pro B and had a lot of fun with trying to get some acceptable output... not so easy but I learned a lot the last weeks. The Printer is connected to an octopi (Raspberry Pi 4) with octoprint in Version 1.3.12. I had the feeling that it worked well but now I have a problem with this constellation…

After starting the print everything works well but after an amount of time (not always the same timespan) the print stops abrupt…
I found out that there is a message in the log that says, “cold extrusion prevention” (the current print runs with PLA/195°C). In addition, the octopi loosed/closed the connection to the printer. Looking into the octoprint logfile I found more “cold extrusion prevented” messages there.

Is it possible that I have a problem with the extruder heating or the temperature sensor? I have no Idea now what to do… would be happy to get some ideas / input from you.
Thanks in advance!
Martin

Hi,you can check whether the wiring on your hot end is loose and check the resistance of the thermistor on the hot end.
-Keep your mind and try to test it. :)

Hi William,
sorry for the late reply, I had no time to work on this the last days.

I checked the wiring of the HotEnd and it looked good from my side of view.

The faillure appears in a timeframe of 30 - 60 min after start of the print. It doesn't look like a general wiring problem, that should appear earlier - or I'm wrong?

Thanks for supporting me.

Hi,maybe your print file contains a print pause command, you can try re-slicing for printing.

Hi William,
I use the Slic3r version 1.3.1-dev for slicing on my PC (Windows) and than upload the file to the octopi. And I had already the same idea and did a re-sicing 3 times now… If it is a problem with the slicer it must be a general problem with this "Thing" because I printed other, bigger "Things" without a problem...
What I am wondering about is, that the Connection from the printer to the octopi get lost... hmm… as I wrote - no idea

Hi William,

I have a new Update! I printed the same "Thing" via SD Card Slot - no failure, worked fine.

So I think it could be the octopi or in the communication… to be sure that the USB cable isn't the problem I ordered a new one with a double shield.
I'll test it and post the Outcome here than.

Have a good time,
Martin
