TMC2208 steps fail

Post by KOLLIAK » Mon Feb 24, 2020 7:04 am

Hello!

I decided to change the digester drivers on tmc2208.
Voltage set ~ 0.8v

Everything works, but during rollbacks and also very fast movements (for example, the Z axis), the engines make a terrible noise and stop at the same time.

As I understand it, is it necessary to raise the voltage a little more until this effect disappears, or reflash the drivers through OTP?

P.S. there was no time to indulge in tension, I just want to find out, so as not to waste time, if anyone has encountered such a thing.
Thanks in advance)

Hi,the voltage range of tmc2208 is generally 0.7-0.9V. Have you replaced all the driver boards with Tmc2208, and you can describe in detail how it sounds.
-Keep your mind and try to test it. :)
-Everything will be fun!-Support all Getech printer.
-You can ask me the questions and I will kindly reply.
-Respect others is the best way you can get help!

Hi.
Yes, I replaced all the drivers.
At normal speeds, it sounds very quiet.
But if you try to move the Z axis 100 mm up or down on Cura, a jamming sound appears. The X and Y axis can wedge during printing, not with simple movements.
With extruders for retracts, the same problem.

I tried to return the old driver to the Z axis and the problem disappeared - it means the problem is in the drivers. TMC2208 v3.0
P.s. It is also written on the plan of my printer that it is 4.0v, but on the forum I saw firmware only for v3.0

I read somewhere that the driver cannot quickly switch from stealthChop2 mode to another mode, so the question arose whether it is worth trying to reflash them, because that bit can be written only once.

ps I also tried to raise the voltage to 1v, but this did not fix the problem

That is the topic. I think that really is the problem

Hi,

yes, I had to change the TMC2208 extruders mode via OTP for both extruders and everything goes right now and the extruders are still silent.

Yes indeed.

I reprogrammed two extruder drivers using OTP and now there are no problems.
