Extruder and bed are not heating up enough

Hi Jon,

So you've written the gcode to the sd card in your computer...
You've transferred the card and placed it in the SD card slot on the printer...
The printer can see that the card is inserted...

Now, do yourself a favour and DISCONNECT the printer from the computer.
You're NOT going to print from within Cura.
You're going to use the printer alone from now on...

Scroll down the printer menus and fine 'Print from SD card'

Select this, and let us know how you get on.

Aside :
If you read the gcode on the card (Any plain text editor like notepad is ideal for this)
You'll see that the printer has all the information it requires.

'Start' gcode will tell the printer what temperature to take the bed/extruder to
Home, probe if required etc etc...
The 'End' gcode will tell the printer what to do after printing - like where to park the nozzle, turn off the heaters and let everything cool down.

Try this and let us know how you get on.

I have done that but how do I print once it is saved to the SD card and the card is in the printer?

Can you scroll through the menus on the printer ?????

Please, Pretty please, with the cherry on top... Have a look at them !

What do you see ? - For interests sake, have a look around and see what's available and where it is...
Make a note of them for future reference.
If you can't see "Print from SD" - Then let us know what you CAN see.

In order, on my system... From the top...
The first list reads as follows....

Info Screen
Custom Commands (You may have none)
Prepare
Control
Print from SD (I have to turn scroll wheel to right to reach this.. )

Click the wheel on the "Print from SD" - Bit of a given this...

Scroll through the card and choose the part you require...
Click on the part name... (This will start the print)

You CAN have folders on the card - the menu will let you select them and see what's inside.

Click... Means push in the scroll wheel...

You HAVE DISCONNECTED the printer now right ??

Hi Jon,

Just a thought...
You don't have the scroll wheel set all the way back to the black acrylic do you ???
If so, it won't push in and 'Click' to select...
It should be set with the wheel a couple of mm OFF the acrylic leaving it room to move backwards when pushed...
Loosen the grub screw, move the wheel out a couple of mm and re-tighten.

So when you turn on the printer...
You see the 'Info Screen'...
PUSH the scroll wheel in to click...
That's when you see the first list.

Every list has the first menu item being a return back up a level...
First list says 'Info Screen' - Others say 'Main' with an up arrow...

Can you use this menu system ??

Thank you for your replies. I've managed to run the print job from the printer, I hadn't thought to try and press the scroll wheel. It won't get to the printing stage however, I set the bed temperature and extruder temperature by altering the gcode file to 70 and 205, and the bed temperature gets to 70 but the extruder temperature won't get past 22. I'm not sure what changes to make to the gcode file?

So the bed heats up, but the nozzle doesn't...
I would first re-check the connections on the heater block, make sure they're correct and tight.
Sounds like the heater in the block may be broken ?
If all checked and no error found, you could replace the heater block - they're not expensive...

I would take some time whilst the new block is in the post to go through all the menu options you've now found on the printer - since you can now scroll through everything.

Under 'Prepare', you'll find you can pre-heat both the bed and nozzle before attempting to print.
I always do this and let the temperatures settle for a while...

In checking your heater, you could use this facility - you don't have to alter the gcode anywhere for this.

I checked the connections, the nozzle still doesn't heat up, either using the printer control or printing from the SD card. The heater block in the link you gave has the wrong kind of plug at the end, would this be the right one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heater-Block ... SwZVlXpZPv ?

Hi, you need to check if your hot end thermistor is fully connected to the motherboard position.

I have checked, the wires are connected.

Heater block looks right.
Mine has no plug, just bare wires on the end.
Cheap to try as a fix...
