Second attempt at A10 fan cover failed

I'm trying to print a fan cover I was advised is good to have. I tried this one first and came up with this:


I think because there was no base for the ribs. It tried to extrude filament in the air to start them.

I tried this one next and came up with this:

I can't guess why this one failed, the ribs go all the way to the bottom so they had a base, the print started out fine, I left about halfway through, then came home to this. I'm wondering about Cura that I'm using. I set up the A10 in there off of the videos that I watched, so all those settings should be OK, but when I load a .slt file, do I have to go in and adjust the print settings for my specific printer, or does whoever make the object set everything up the way it needs to be. I have no idea what to change settings to, or what they mean yet. Thanks for your help!

It looks like those ribs got loose in mid print. So I'm going to guess that you have first layer adhesion problem. It may be warped bed, surface not clean or Z offset or this particular model requires support. Try printing with brim and support and watch what happens.

Thanks for your help. I actually learned a lot today, that being my second print ever. I actually had no idea what "supports" were, and stared looking everywhere for answers, and found out I had to enable them in Cura. I've watched a lot of videos today and printed another version perfect.



Then I tried more ambitious stuff, and couldn't print another thing. Everything was screwing up. Did a lot more reading and watching videos, and learned about adhesion on the bed. Turns out fingerprints from kids taking off the models and moving the bed prevents adhesion. I took apart nozzles and cleaned and aligned and everything, and it turns out wiping the super bed with alcohol and leveling before every print and everything's printing perfect now, even without brims and rafts. I do the skirt just to get things flowing right. Now I'm about ready for an auto-leveling bed....
