Changing nozzle, sudden spark! Printer won't turn on.
Changing nozzle, sudden spark! Printer won't turn on.
Good evening all.
I've got an A10 with a GT2560 V3.
I was changing out my stock brass nozzle for hardened steel. I got the hot end up to 190F and the brass came out, no problem. Using a socket wrench, I put the steel up to the heat block to screw it in, there was a spark between the nozzle and the block and the machine shut off.
To be clear, the power supply still has power and there is power to the board (red light comes on when power supply is switched on) but there is not a hint of booting.
I opened up the board box and didn't see anything that was obviously fried, but there's got to be at least one thing that was killed.
So my questions are:
1) Why on earth did the nozzle short to the heat block?! I'd say it was shocking, but that'd be a bad pun.
2) What did it kill? Can it be replaced?
3) This isn't going to require a whole new board, will it?
Thanks, all for any help you can offer.

Re: Changing nozzle, sudden spark! Printer won't turn on.
Hi,does the motherboard light three lights after booting?
Does the LCD display?
Can you provide pictures or video?
so that we can better judge the problem for you. Here you can upload compressed files.

Re: Changing nozzle, sudden spark! Printer won't turn on.
Hi again, William.
1) Not three lights, no. Just a single red one, which you can see in the vid.
2) No LCD light or display.
3) Absolutely. Here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUasb7l_VQk
Hopefully, you'll see this soon and have some idea.
If this isn't a simple fix, I'm going to dump it and go with another brand; no offense intended.

Hi,from the video, the motherboard is broken, you can contact the salesman on the purchase platform to replace the motherboard.

Re: Changing nozzle, sudden spark! Printer won't turn on.
That's what I was expecting to hear.
What about my first question from the original post?
1) Why on earth did the nozzle short to the heat block?!
I don't understand how that could happen so I don't know that I can avoid having it happen again.

Re: Changing nozzle, sudden spark! Printer won't turn on.
Hi,it may be a short circuit caused by a broken skin on the outside of the heating rod.

Re: Changing nozzle, sudden spark! Printer won't turn on.
That's an interesting suggestion.
I'm going to look into that.
I'm going to look into that.
Re: Changing nozzle, sudden spark! Printer won't turn on.
You were correct, William.
I checked continuity between various parts of the hotend and I found that there was continuity between the outside of the heating rod and the heat block. I pulled the heating rod out and checked again all over the outside of the rod. Everywhere on the outside of the rod has continuity to every other spot. I conclude, therefore, that the insulation layer between the rod and the heatblock is shot.
That means that it is not wise to replace the motherboard unless I first replace the heating rod with one that has intact insulation.

Re: Changing nozzle, sudden spark! Printer won't turn on.
Hi,the heating rod can also be replaced by contacting the salesman.
If you turn on the power and the main board does not have three lights on, it means that the main board is broken.
You can also check it again.

Are the fuses good too?
