Turning up heated bed to maximum.

I'm about to remove damaged glass plate and replace it. The only suggestion I've had is to heat the bed up to maximum and, using a steel guitar string, slide it between the glass and the bed when the glue is very hot and it should come off. Not knowing where to look, I have no idea how to turn up the heat of the bed. Can someone please help?
