Layer shifting

I've had the printer about 2 weeks.. working on it in my spare time.. so far I would say I've gotten 2 successful prints out of it.. 1 to dog on the SD card and a fan shroud.. I've tried a number of things.. and I keep getting layer shifts.. the first thing I tried to print was the lizard on the sd card.. first couple of layers were fine.. except it was making a bit of a blob on the purge block.. then it would hit that blob when returning to the print and shift in both x and y.. so after trying the print a few more times changing print temps extruder tension.. I decided to try the dog.. it printed ok.. so then I tried to print a fan duct to cover the controller fan.. with in a inch of the build plate it had shifted back and forth several times.. almost every layer.. knowing it wasn't hitting a blob I checked the belt.. was tight.. about as tight as I using on my ender 3.. so I tried loosening it a bit and tried again.. printed the should ok.. not great but ok.. so I tried a few dual color calibration cubes..using z hop to try and avoid and blobs.. still got layer shifts.. x and y.. so I check the driver voltage.. .9 on all of them.. So i turned them up to 1.0.. tried again.. still shifting.. flashed the firmware for the bltouch I got.. tried again.. shifts... So last night I tried to print just a square box.. 50x50x25mm 15% infill.. shifts.. so I turned the voltages up to 1.2 on the x and y and tired again.. same block with z hop.. still shifted.. so I let it go for a we more seconds and just put my finger in the way of the hotend as it was moving.. it started skipping. With very little pressure from my finger.. like maybe 1/8 of a pound or something.. I went and tried the same thing on my ender 3.. it had WAY more torque... So not sure what to do now.. only thought I had was maybe a bad stepper motor.. but both the x and y bad at the same time? Any suggestions would be great..

:D Hiļ¼ŒRegarding layer shifting, you can check the following aspects:
1. Check the tightness of the belt and make appropriate adjustments;
2. Check whether the bearing and the pulley are issued, and the card can be lubricated for lubrication;
3. The printing speed should not be too fast, the reference range is 30-60mm/s;
4. Adjust the driver board voltage, 0.8-1.2V.

Is your stepper motor working properly?
Can provide specific videos or pictures.
So that we can solve the problem better.

hello,
ive recently upgraded my geeetech i3 pro b with a bl touch (which by the way was an absolute pain and took forever due to the number of issues I kept having)I'm running the newest marlin firmware 1.1.8 and its leveling perfectly however I'm having a bizarre layer shift issue. I've never experienced any layer shift issues before but now it seems to print perfectly for the first like 20 layers then suddenly start to continuously shift each layer back along the y-axis. I've checked the bearings, the y-axis motor, and belt and it all seems fine. what i find most bizzare is that the first 20 layers come out perfect then it starts to shift. if anyone knows what could cause this or any suggestions please let me know your help is greatly appreciated

thank you

by the way, my slicer is cura

Hi,Is this happening when you print all the models?
Is your printing speed too fast, the reference range is 30-60mm/s.

Hello, yeah all my prints are done on 60mm speed.
It prints perfectly for the first 20 layers then starts shifting.

Possibly overheated electronics, if there is not mechanical problem. Or bad gcode, if you have plenty of CPU cores then gcode is sometimes really mad. Limit CPU cores under 10 in slicer options.

I've added tl smoothers if that affects anything, and it's a 2560 board, ill try limit the cpu thanks.

okay, so I decided to try just printing with the USB straight from my computer on cura instead of using the sd card and so far it's printed really well. I'm gonna try something bigger and see if it still performs well
