A10M Connection timeouts and now cryptic signs on Display

Hello Folks,

i bought a A10M over a month ago. Since one week i get sporadically connection timeouts. I change the usb cable 2 times till now. the third one is a few days in use with a Raspberry Pi and OctoPi connected to the A10M and works great till now... But now, no connection can be made to the printer, no matter from OctoPi or from Laptop / PC. So no chance to refresh the firmware. The display looks like the picture i attached...

I contacted the support a few days ago, with formular on the geetech site, but nothing happens, it feels like standalone in the rain

Ah, the A10M have the original 1.18 FW working, or non working - how it happens

My Laptop runs Debian with actual Cura 4.

What can i do now? Any ideas?

Greets from Germany,

Sven

Hello Debian user.

I would first check the correctness of the power supply voltage.

Do you have a multimeter :?:

Also check the status LEDs on the controller board.
;)

I think you need to check your LCD cables at first.
Maybe it has the poor contact.

Thanks for your reply :)

Why ever, today he let me connect again, and the display seems to work. In the Octoprint logs there come followed message by connecting:

Code: Select all

Recv: Fp|hN6~m &>X5\x12\x17JpGN&Bz-J\x00orPAP\x17MzU>r\x12fxaX@J\x13\x13fB\x16\x086]7-\x18\x17\x1a%N\x1b>\x17jW"\x13C\x10'(VQ\x17B]N\x1b6\x17zW"\x13\x0c\x10|0^(P\x07P6\x13.\x17X6>\x13Bi\x132\x17\x1a\x13eH>echo:Unknown command: "\x18"
So he conncted anyway, i receive messages from the A10M, but cant send him anything.

Yes, the power supply runs stable so far, littlebit over 24V... No brakedowns noticed...
The LCD cable i had checked first, was my thought too in the first moment. However, the display is working correctly again. But now there my other problems visible again, im getting grey hairs meanwhle... :?

Something is lazy here, maybe i have a monday model buyed?

It's good that you don't leave the mood in such a situation. :D

Such symptoms can also be attributed to poor quality of the soldered connection. It is described as cold solder.
But I won't tell you where it occurs.
It can be difficult to detect, but it does not mean that it is impossible.

My mood is slowly drifting away

Yes, its hard to find sporadicly / not reproducable faults. Yesterday i printed a little thing. After that, no connection anymore, like the printer is frozen. He sends his bed und nozzle temperature, but dont answer to my commands.

Mhmmm, i can play with soldering iron, no problem. But isnt the sense, and warranty void ;)

I wrote the geeetech support again, hopefully to become an answer from geeetech

Hey hey.

For faster diagnostics, you can try to touch, or gently press, selected components.
Of course, while the printer is in operation. Observe the behavior of the electronics. After touching the selected element, click the reset button.

I had a similar problem with a replacement motherboard Geeetech sent me to fix the defective heated bed circuit... rather than wait for their response, I started troubleshooting the motherboard and found that one of the CPU clock leads was essentially unsoldered. That fixed my connection timeout that was making booting the machine sporadic, and upgrading the firmware impossible.

Love the printer, hate the quality control of the electronics....

Good luck.

Hi.
:D

Such an incorrectly soldered quartz resonator will cause nasty symptoms. :?
