Auto Bed Leveling vs manual

Hi,

I'm brand new to 3D printing and this is my first machine. My A10 is running on Marlin 2.0 build 245 with 3D touch and 4 x TMC2208's.

I did a manual bed level first and my initial layer thickness looks nice and even. My test print is a 160mm disc. As soon as I run the Auto Probe and Save, the print doesn't turn out as even and there's random points of under extrusion. I've tried this twice, clean eeprom and started again, with same results. I also checked for dips in the bed and looks to be fine. I doesn't appear to be affecting print quality when I print full objects.

Am I missing something? I don't have to use auto probe as being able to adjust the z offset by having the probe as a z stop is pretty handy.

Thanks

Personally, I support the idea of vert. Bltouch is more reliable, but it also means more expensive.

That's good information.

Thanks.

What would you consider accurate when doing M48? I’ve spent so much time thinking my bed or axis was the issue and I think it’s just this crappy 3dtouch being inaccurate.

Thanks for the feedback. After tightening the screw and running the test again I am getting .002-.004 after 5 tests.

Update: After a bit I would get borough failed errors so I have to back the screw out a little more. I am getting .07 to .1 now. I am going to mess with it a little more, what do you think a maximum deviation should be for decent results?

What type of auto leveling would be best for a 3Dtouch? I want something fairly fast but more reliable. At the moment I’m using bilinear.

I think the UBL type auto level mode is a good choice for 3dtouch.
You can try to use this type for it.
