Manual extrusion

Post by dd3d » Sun Mar 15, 2020 5:39 pm

When I setup for a new print, filament already loaded in, I whish I could extrude some cm of filament just to make sure the flow is clean.
I' don't find in the menu any command to get some extrusion without changing filament.

Any guess?

I use octorprint installed on an old laptop with an old cell phone to video stream, still trying to get the timelapse right. It was a bit of a PITA to setup, but it easily allows extrusion of any amount from any extruder and retraction, all on a nice PC screen. Octoprint also allows me to wifi prints across the room, rather than using the SD card. Octoprint is also available in a raspberry pi configuration, but I didn't go that way.

Upgrading the firmware can also help, but octoprint is much easier. With the firmware it appears I have to still swap extruders in the mixer, then go to the motion and extrude. The advantage is the old mixer menu was junk, where the new one may actually work.
