Heat Bed chirping noise

Post by cheaplehre » Mon Aug 26, 2019 5:46 am

Hello everybody,

after printing half a dozen items that had print times between 5 to 10 hours, I experience a weird issue with my A10.
The printer emits a electronic hissing (chirping) noise that is in sync with the LED below the heatbed. So far, I am 90% sure is that the noise is coming from the MOSFET on the main board. My a10 has the 2560V3 board. Is this possible and if yes, is this a defect?

Details: For some non-standard PLA, I use the heatbed set to 60%. Then, the chirping/hissing noise appears after some time into the print. It's quite prominent and at first, I thought that some screw was scratching metal until I realized the sync to the heatbed LED. So this seems to be some electrical/electronic problem. When I print without the heatbed enabled, no noise appears. Prints are fine, though. All steppers working fine.
I checked all the wiring from the power supply to the 2560 board and from the board to the heat bed. All cables seem fine, the solder joints on the heat plate look perfect. But after I removed the top cover and the fan from the main board, I would bet the odd noise comes from the corner the MOSFET is located.

I'd like to be more precise, but I am afraid to keep the printer running when the noise is present, as I don't want to ruin the electronics and the motion and extrusion are perfect. And I read too many horror stories of 3D printers having connectors or cables going up in smoke due to connectivity failures.

Is anyone around here who could help me sort out this issue? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Greetings,

Jan

Hi, Can you provide a specific video?
Whether it is from the sound of the fan.
-Keep your mind and try to test it. :)
-Everything will be fun!-Support all Getech printer.
-You can ask me the questions and I will kindly reply.

Thanks for your swift reply,

I will try to make a video today ASAP. But I can exclude the mainboard fan as the source of the noise.
For troubleshooting, I briefly powered up the printer with the mainboard cover removed, which meant, I had to unplug the fan.
The chirping occurred once anyway when heating up, but as soon as this happened, I powered down the printer in order not to overheat the board.
Thus, I am absolutely sure that the fan is not the source.

I will provide a video anyway. Thanks for your help!!!
