How to run 3mm Filament in a pro B?

Post by KyleK37 » Sat Feb 12, 2022 9:44 am

Hi I bought some 3mm ABS because I thought that's what the printers spec said. 1.75 and 3mm. I removed the the white piece that the 1.75 runs thru and tried to insert the 3mm and found the the hole was too small. Do I have to modify it or did I misunderstand the specs? Thanks

Just checked the specs and you're right; 1.75mm and 3mm. However, I reckon you'd have to strip down the hot end and replace the PTFE lined nozzle throat with a 3mm one. You'd also have to modify your slicer settings and possibly the printer firmware to accommodate the different filament width though I'm not sure about that last one. The printer will be able to cope but it looks like a pretty big hassle to me. Best solution would be to just blow another £20.00 or equivalent and buy some 1.75mm ABS which is the standard size for the "off-the-shelf" printer and write off the 3mm stuff. Just my opinion though.

Play Bonny!
