Initial Prints Are Stringy

I have just completed the build of my printer after a couple of hic ups along the way.
My first prints are stringy and mis shaped despite setting up using all the recommended settings. I'm using Repetier.
To me it looks as though not enough filament is being extruded while printing.

Any help would be appreciated. Go easy on me please as I am new to this.

:D Hi, You can check the following:
How tight the spring of your feeder is;
Whether the voltage range of the drive board of the extruder motor is within 0.8-1.2V;
Whether the consumables are fully inserted into the extruder;
Whether the distance between the nozzle and the hot bed is the distance of a piece of leveling paper.

I have tried 2 different springs in the feeder with the same results
Consumables look to be inserted ok
Nozzle distance seems good when idle but when printing it is raised a little (don't know if this is normal)
How do I check the motor voltage?
Thanks
