Quality changes with height of print

Post by Nibbo » Sat Mar 09, 2019 2:51 am

Hi... I'm pretty new to 3d printing but have had quite a few success but today hit a new problem. I have tried to print a dice tower which is just below maximum possible with my I3 Pro B. Took 7 hours. The bottom/first couple of inches were fine but from then on the quality of print deteriated quickly with layers not sticking together. I let it continue and the top couple of inches are better. Not sure why the middle should be so poor. Any ideas?
I think a pic has attached OK.

Hello.

Although the printout is not a success, this tower is beautiful. :D
What kind of plastic (filament) do you use :?:

Hi Kaktus

It's 1.75mm PLA from Sunlu

Yes I'm disappointed it didn't print well. Someone gave me the printer and its the first time I've tried printing something this tall.

the tower is from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3333718

Hi.
;)

I would try to raise the temperature of the hot end a little.
I noticed that up to a certain height the printout is flawless. It is possible that up to this height the printer worked the most often, and the mechanisms aligned and adapted.

Have you lubricated the Z-axis screws with oil :?:

You can also try to reduce the print speed.

Thanks for your suggestions Kaktus, I will try them.

However, I probably wont try to print the tower again because it took seven hours last time. I think I will try a different approach where the tower is printed in sections.

thanks for your help

Hi.

I forgot about one more.
When I was using poor quality filament I had various problems.

OK Kaktus - thanks

I must admit I am using a new reel of filament that someone gave me. I will check that put too.
