USB cable burning when printer is powered on

I've built the printer and checked it is working from the LCD controller. The axis all move and I can use the auto home function.

I began setting it up with Repetier. I connected the USB to my PC and managed to get connected using the Repetier software.

I then switched on the main power to the printer and almost immediately the USB socket on my PC began smoking, I also noticed the cable was very hot. Since then my computer will no longer recognise it as a USB device.

The printer is still working from the LCD controller (and luckily so is my USB port) but each time I plug it into my PC the USB cable starts overheating.

What could be the problem here?

Hello.

Specify the version of the controller board you have and place a photo on which it will show the area around the USB port of your controller board.

What happens is not your fault. :D

The board is a GT2560 REV A+

Hi.

I expect that if you unsolder the resistor marked F2 everything will work properly.

I have described in detail in this topic.

In addition, the printer and computer should be plugged into the same power outlet.

I've removed the F2 resistor but I still have the same problem.

The computer and printer are both in the same power outlet (I've checked they use the same ground).

I've checked the voltage going between the ground of the printer and ground of the PC - I got 0.19v which shouldn't be enough to burn a USB cable?

Is there anything else you would suggest trying?

I'm going to try and get a replacement GT2560 board in case there is an issue with that.

Hi.
;)

I am troubled by the failure.
And are you able to get another PSU for testing :?:

A mi me paso lo mismo y la solución fue desconectar la toma de tierra de la fuente de alimentación.

It looks like there is a short circuit from the upper right soldier point to the ground.

Do you have a soldering iron to fix it?

Hi.

The short circuit you noticed is awful. It contains data outputs D+ and D-.
This will disable communication to the printer but is not dangerous for electronics.
