I finally have managed to get everything successfully connected to my PC and started moving everything around in Repetier Host. I have one issue, when homing the Y-Axis the bed hits the end stop but the motor keeps going and makes a horrible noise as it struggles to pull back a bed with no room to move. It's in the correct position but the end stop isn't telling the motor to cut out.

If I move the bed forward and then tell it to move back towards the home, but manually push the end stop switch it instantly stops the bed from moving any further. When I tell it to 'home' it doesn't seem to act in the same way.

What do I do?

You should check the wiring of the endstop --- Y axis

It sounds like the bed is hitting the printer end plate before the switch has been made. The electronics appears to be OK as when you operate the switch by hand the Y axis stops as it should.

Try slackening the screws holding the endstop to the printer and sliding it forward towards the middle of the printer then re-tighten.
Then try pushing the bed back gently (too fast will cause the steppers to generate current and feed it back to the board which could damage it.) You should be able to hear the switch 'click' before the bed hits the physical endstop.
Try homing the axis again and it should hopefully work! :)

It turned out that the thumb screw for adjusting the bed height was making contact with the rear of the printer before the bed had hit the axis, I adjusted slightly and it all now works as it should.
