Z probe problems on g2s

Against my better judegement I bought a G2s Pro from GEEEtech last week.
No surprise the FW is out of date and only loads on an old version of arduino.....
My main issues at present is that the z probs system is not working...
Probe height is set correctly, and endstop settings are set correctly.
FW loaded is from the repository (RKMB G2560).
Effector probes but only in a 2" grid on the centre of the bed, and comes out with these results:
19:39:35.560 : 0.03 0.05 0.00 -0.30 -0.60 0.00
19:39:35.560 : 0.01 -0.06 -0.14 -0.19 -0.55 0.00
19:39:35.560 : 0.00 -0.18 -0.15 -0.08 -0.28 0.00
19:39:35.560 : -0.31 -0.20 -0.09 -0.10 -0.45 0.00
19:39:35.560 : -0.28 -0.19 -0.10 -0.21 -0.56 0.00
19:39:35.560 : 0.00 0.00 0.00 0.00 0.00 0.00
Which after reporting, the effector just sits at the last probe position, and does not lift to a proper position.
It also does not report it's position properly so using G0 x0 y0 sets to the origin, but any Z command makes the effector lift to it's highest point.
Sending a print then makes the nozzle smash into the bed....
