Extruder Calibration Inconsistent

Post by NickNonsense » Thu Apr 19, 2018 4:01 am

Would someone be able to help me resolve an issue with calibrating the extruder to extrude the correct amount of filament, I've spent the whole day on this, trying various things to get this working correctly. A quick search of the forums here showed nothing relevant to me

I'm measuring up from the top of the extruder to 100mm, using the LCD screen to extrude 100mm of the filament, measuring and then apply the formula of "old steps per mm x 100 / extruded amount" should be this easy right?

But I'm taking numerous measurements before I apply that formula and none of the measurements are consistent, every measurement I make it's completely different. I've stripped the extruder back and cleaned it, no blockages, no skipping in the motor that I can hear, tension looks good on the gear although I can't see any adjustment for that, there absolutely no tension on the filament that causing it to snag, I've even checked the voltage running through the driver with a multi-meter and reading 1.17 I even changed the setting on the lcd screen "e-steps" to something riduclious like 300 to see if that changes anything but it doesnt oringally it was set at 93. I've disconnected the stepper mount and connected it back up in case that would reset something. Any idea what i should look at next to try and solve this?

Can't seem to delete this post.

Anyway, after taking a step back and tackling it later on in the day, I found it was down to human error, the calipers that I using weren't zeroing out correctly, solved the issue for the most part. Still experiencing some inconsistencies but they somewhat minor and I can live with those.
