Geeetech wood PLA. Am I missing something?

My Ender 3 has been working perfectly with my other PLA (AMZ3D white and black), but I'm having some really strange issues with Geeetech's wood PLA. It seems like I have to lower the bed waaaay lower than normal - sliding paper under the nozzle doesn't even come close to catching on it. It pretty much becomes a game of sending something to print, and constantly adjusting the bed on the fly to get the damn thing in the right place. I'm using an SKR Mini E3 with Repetier Host if that matters.

Is it normal for wood PLA to require a lower bed or am I doing something thick? Are there any tricks to level the bed if paper isn't thick enough? This PLA and Geeetech's marble PLA are also horribly brittle, so I'm not sure if it's just a bit rubbish...
