[fixed] A30 firmware update from 1.35.56 to 1.37.xx problem

Hi Guys,
I'm unable to do a firmware update of my A30 printer from version 1.35.56 to any firmware 1.37.xx.

After updating mainboard and LCD the "Settings" section (correct the "Settings" button) didn't react to anything and the list of files in "Printing" disappeared (empty list).

In my opinion the SD Card reader disappeares for the printer after I install any 1.37.xx firmware (I'm on it because after the update of the mainboard no LCD update mechanism starts on the printer when I use the SD Card with the config.txt as update method, see below. That's only works fine with a 1.35.xx or 1.39.xx mainboard version).

Maybe a driver / hardware version problem with firmware 1.37.xx?

My A30 Hardware Version: V2.1-null
Serial number: 180708A3001562A

I've flashed the firmware with the Updater Tool 1.2, 1.1 and 1.0. Also tried the combination with LCD update via SD Card (config.txt and system dir from http://geeetech.com/firmware/A30%2037.58.zip) and mainboard via Updater Tool. Also I think I tried any way of doing the update, some tries with _S_ as and then _M_, some updates _M_ then _S_ and any combination with the working firmware versions as update base. Also a lot of factory resets done.

Which version's I tried and failed:

A30_M_LCD_V1_37.bin
A30_VD_S_V1_58.bin

A30_M_LCD_V1_36.bin
A30_VD_S_V1_57.bin

Both version's I tried with a local file and the remote function of the Updater Tool 1.2.

These version's are doing as expected:

A30_APP_M_V1.39.62.bin (as developer version from Geeetech via Updater tool)
A30_APP_S_V1.39.62.bin (as developer version from Geeetech via Updater tool)

A30_APP_S_V1.35.56.bin
A30_APP_M_V1.35.56.bin

Maybe a hint for Geeetech Guys: EasyPrint 3d shows a printer firmware version "1.xx.58" (or .57, really ".xx.", not ".37."), on the LCD I'm unable to show the Info section because I can't enter to the settings menu..

A reflashing back to the older firmware versions works very well - and get's me all fixed bugs back.. ;-)

Anyone have a clue?

Best regards,
Andi

Hello.

Have you tried to download firmware files from the repository, or Geeetech Github?
;)

VICTORY! :D

Ok, with a little inspiration from Sven V. Beckum ( User in the FB Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/206519003304580/ - thank you for your post to a similar problem!) I was able to update my A30 to 1.37.58.

Besides that the update process by Geeetech is a little bit  (due to the fact that they changed the UI files and that a user has to update them manually by opening the power box..) was my fault that I used the OUTSIDE (normal) SD Card Slot, not the 2nd SD Card Slot at the INSIDE of the power box...

Ok, for all people with the same problem:

(these steps are additionally to the normal update via Updater Tool, first _S_, then _M_ file!)

1. Open the A30 power box (from the bottom), before check that no power cord is connected!! Do at your own risk!
2. Unscrew the PSU with the 4 screws on the side (where the SD Card Slot is)
3. Locate and take out the SD Card from the LCD board at the front
4. Make a backup of the SD Card content (copy) if something goes wrong
5. Copy the content of the http://geeetech.com/firmware/A30%2037.58.zip (or later versions) "system" (Dir) and "A30_M_LCD_V1_37.bin" to the SD Card root
6. Rename "A30_M_LCD_V1_37.bin" to "A30.bin"
7. Create a textfile "config.txt" in the SD Card root with the following content:

Code: Select all

boot:1;bin_name:A30.bin;
8. Return SD Card to LCD card slot
9. Build everything together again
10. Connect power cord and boot the A30 - now the buttons works (at least for me :) )

Have a nice day folks and close the topic!

Thank you for the detailed step by step. Hopefully it will save me the pain you already had to go through.

I'm having a very similar problem as you. For whatever reason, if I try to flash the S file then the M file, the M file will fail. If I flash the M file first then the S file the firmware updates but the SD card won't work. I can't figure it out.

i also tried updating with internal SD card, but the board refuses every bin file, the actual version same as the newest 1.39.62. I also changed the SD card with same result.
Any idea?
Mainboard update works fine

In my case it was the internal SD card that was bad. I ended up replacing it with a Class 10 16GB Micro SD card and I was able to upgrade the LCD firmware. As a bonus the LCD is MUCH quicker at loading menus!

I think you want to include the S file with the smaller number on your internal SD card.
