Hello guys,

Im fairly new to the 3d printing hobby but understand the concepts because I work for a robotics company. I bought a A30 a few weeks ago and have been successfully printing with PLA with no issues. I would like to try ABS in the near future but suspect it might be impossible without and enclosure around the printer to keep the temps up.

Has anyone tried printing with ABS yet? If so how did it go?

My printer model does not have a housing either.

Besides, I haven't yet printed models made of any other material than ABS.
It is said that ABS is difficult. I don't know. But I know that it has its caprices.

ABS is possible without an enclosure. It has to be a small print and good quality filament to do it right. I have done some big prints with ABS with my pro B. They had minor splits all over it but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I would also recommend doing it inside with windows closed. Any drafts could kill the print. I heat my bed to 100 C and my extruder to about 230 C depending on the filament.

The main problem I find with abs is you need a heated bed and zero drafts. Any change in bed temperature will kill the print period because the print will expand and shrink not uniformly and will come right off the bed. Any drafts will cause splits in your print without an enclosure. Good luck!
