Can't seem to get it right - inconsistent prints

My son got the A30T. We finally got the little dog (included with the printer) to work, but nothing after that. We've reset the factory defaults, re-downloaded the Geeetech A30T application, and started from scratch twice.

We have anomalies printing anything but the little dog. We had adhesion problems and increased the bed temperature, which seemed to work. The touchscreen shows the hot end is at the correct temperature, but the software on the computer never reaches a temperature above 122C.

We are so frustrated my son doesn't even want to look at the machine anymore.

The worst part is there is no up-to-date manual and not much in the way of trouble shooting for the A30T. Everything I've read on the internet just makes us more confused.

What should we be looking at if the hot end isn't heating up?
