I installed a mks tmc2209 motor driver on my geeetech e180 printer.
No more sound is coming from my printer, except for the fan sound.
What to do: First, we remove the 4988 drivers and replace them with the tmc2209 drivers.
we will not touch the jumpers under the motor drive
The direction of the motor drivers that you should pay attention to while doing this operation.
You should place it as I showed in the photo.
Then we will set the vref value of the drives approximately to 0.750V. if you make it higher, your drivers will overheat. if you make it lower, your motors will loses step
Then we will connect our printer to smartto motor tool program via usb cable.
Perform the operations according to the order in the photo. that's all. you don't need to change anything as software.
If you return to the factory settings, you have to connect with the smartto motor tool and reverse the motor directions again.
You will probably need to do the same when you use the tmc2208 driver. The important thing is to check the axes by pressing the home button from the printer after installing the drivers and if there is an axis going in the opposite direction, correct it with the motor tool.

I do not know if it works with another board. I think it works all geeetech printers.

I recommend getting the TMC2209 they can support sensorless homing and handle more current.
For anyone who changed to direct-drive extruder; I wouldn't use the TMC2209 for the extruder because the high microstepping means less torque. For bowden system (default setup on E180) the risk of skipping on high microstepping is eliminated because bowden is way less sensitive.
For direct drive instead order an LV8729 along the 3 TMC2209.

I watched the related video before and made the settings in the video with mks sgen l. especially sensorless homing is great. But we can not configure tmc2209 because geetech e180 does not support marlin. that is, we cannot activate features such as sensorless homing, microstepping. Under the current conditions, 16 microstepes are set with jumpers under the motor driver. I got trouble free with 0.750v extruder setting. If there is a problem, it can be increased a little more. As you said, more current may be required for the directdrive extruder. I preferred tmc2209 just because it made less noise. my neighbors are happier right now. especially in prints that continue until the morning
