I tried, it to the point where there weren't any nuts or bolts on it at all, no luck. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Just replaced the Ramps 1.4 board, and that fixed every problem I had.

I just opened up a brand new Geeetech RAMPS board the LCD2004 display had random characters on the screen also. Moved it back to my Acryllic I3 and LCD was fine. I have the RAMPS mounted to an old "Italian" Arduino MEGA2560 I had from my LED light show left over. Went to trace the problem. Ohm'd out all the LCD input linews and the lines ohm'd out fine. Re-tried, still random characters on the screen. Decided to re-flow all the input pins that come from the MEGA to the LCD Adapter card on the RAMPS board. Here are the pins listed in the picture diagram.

After re-flow the LCD display now works perfectly:

Using the LCD for my scratch built Rostock printer with motors/bearings/most electronics using Geeetech parts.
