LCD Screen won't turn off

Post by Dave.B » Mon Aug 27, 2018 10:10 pm

Hi,
I've assembled my I3 Pro B and with the help of this forum I've solved the issue of the Z-axis not working properly.
I've just connected to my PC via USB for the first time, and everything seems to work just fine using Repetier-Host, but I have noticed an unusual problem.
Now that the USB cable is plugged in, when I turn the printer off using the main switch, the LCD screen stays on.
How do I turn the screen off?

Hi

The computer's USB port also acts as a power source. So the printer electronics are partially working.

Thanks, I get that, but surely the screen isn't meant to be on 24/7?
I could unplug the USB from the back of the PC, but that's not really convenient.

;)

I share your point.
This is certainly not a comfortable situation. :?

The LCD module can operate continuously, but for what purpose?

Perhaps a good way around the problem is to use an usb hub with a switch.

:D

Another solution may be to tamper with the controller board's circuits and disconnect the USB power line.

There is one more possibility.
In the BIOS settings of your computer, you can change the settings so that the power supply in the USB port is turned off when the computer is not running.
:D

Now you can choose the option that suits you best.
