Is the fan on the feeder motor for a G2 Pro necessary?

In the assembly manual, what I am referring to is Step 9, page 61, part number #56A/B.

As part of a senior design project at the university, a group modified a G2 pro to change from the belt drive, to screw drive. They either messed up, or intentionally omitted the fan on this motor. In order to put it on, I will need to modify the plate that it mounts to. This is not a huge deal, but before I take this apart to do this, I cannot determine if this is strictly necessary?

If the motor was down by the hot-end, it would make sense. From looking online that is where many are. In the delta platform, it is well up above the work area. We have shortened the platform considerably (homed the hotend is like 25 mm off the build surface), but the feeding is still well above the build plate.

If this is not installed, what issues would arise?

They broke one of the wires off the fan (unfortunately it pulled the pad off the fan's PCB), which might be why they left it off. Replacing the fan is not a big deal either, it is just before I do this, do I need to?

Thanks
