Acrylic Prusa I3 build issues

Post by Graves » Sat Sep 03, 2016 3:10 am

Well, the physical build is done. Now is the time for real troubleshooting.

I've updated the firmware, as per the Geeetech forum advice http://www.geeetech.com/forum/viewtopic ... 20&t=17181 and I'm still having serious issues with the motor control and limit switches.

Using the Repetier software, it's whats recommended and I don't know any better yet. What I can observe is this:

-The extruder will run in one direction and once it hits the limit switch on the left side, it's not going anywhere. It appears that when I try to backtrack in the other direction, according to the serial data that the X-limit is being triggered repeatedly.

-The Z axis limit switch does nothing. I'm still reading through Geeetech forums and may try a different position on the board or swap switches to see if I have a bad one.

-Directions on X and Y were/are reversed and since there is an option in Repetier to swap them I tried that. It corrects the directions as far as moving the extruder, but not the problems that result.

-Y axis limit switch works, unless I hit the Home button on Repetier, then it shoves the carriage back and grinds for about five seconds before stopping. If I am moving the carriage in increments through Repetier, the limit switch performs perfectly.

Make sure you've homed all axes before you start it.

Change the motor direction according to the link:

Refer to this post to check your endstop:

Ok, I tried a few more things.

I homed all three axis, then turned on and connected to Repetier.

If I start the Extruder carriage on the right side of the X-Axis it will move to the left and right, until it hits the X limit switch (on the left side of the frame), then it will not move to the right anymore. In the serial data field I get the message "echo:endstops hit x:209.99" If I hit the right arrow on Repetier it just counts down, x209.98 then x:209.98 etc. I tried changing the direction of the X-motor and got the exact same results.

When I tried the manual g-code m119 I was able to see the X_min go from open to TRIGGERED by manually hitting the limit switch. After doing that once, the extruder carriage seemed to operate normally for a few minutes, but then once it hit the x limit switch it stopped moving again.

Finally, I had the extruder positioned away from the home position, Repetier had the values listed as X210, Y50, and Z25. I hit the Home button and after attempting to move the extruder to the left instead of right, it returned the Y and Z axis to Home.

Also, The LCD screen does not display any text. It lights up when power is applied and flickers a bit when connecting to Repetier. However, other than that the LCD display does nothing.

Hi,
1."endstops hit X"
Maybe the X endstop has a wrong direction, you can modify it in the firmware by referring to this:
http://www.geeetech.com/forum/viewtopic ... 17&t=17037
2.LCD lighs up without displaying,i think it will help you:

That fixed the LCD display issue, thanks.

The page that you sent me to in order to fix the X axis says that the home position is supposed to move up against all the endstops. Mine homes with the extruder to the far right, but the endstop is on the left.

Is this the correct home position?

Attaching a picture to show what I am seeing.

Nope, the home position you attached should be the left side where the X endstop locates.
Looks like you home X axis then the extruder motor move towards right end?
If it does, the X motor has a wrong direction, you can confirm it in"Prepare->Move Axis->Move X" to check if it moves correctly.
Refer to the following post to change the X motor direction:
